Our partnership with NHS Manchester Foundation Trust’s Live Well Hub addresses the direct link between fuel poverty and health and wellbeing, by supporting patients with energy and income advice for their return home.

This includes a collaboration with Cadent’s customer vulnerability team to deliver support for patients through a combined £1.1 million programme.

The Live Well Hub will offer services for people living in fuel poverty in Manchester, providing multiple points of support across one single team. It is available across four hospitals, Manchester Royal Infirmary, North Manchester General Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The programme aims to:

  • Support 3,072 client interactions with income, debt and energy advice.
  • Generate approximately £5 million for patients/families via income maximisation and debt management.
  • Undertake 550 in-home assessments, with 1,240 small measures installed, generating approximate cost savings of £110,000.
  • Reduce time in hospital for patients, faster discharge (targeting a 25% reduction in delayed discharges where delay is linked to income, housing, cold homes).
  • Support patients to access NHS care, reducing appointment non-attendance rates for people who attend the Hub (targeting a 4% reduction).

The support essentially helps with money, housing and cold homes, providing specialist guidance on benefits through Citizens Advice and other issues like tackling mould and damp issues. This extends to in-home services where Groundwork’s Green Doctors will provide onward referrals and community support.

The project also tackles social isolation, physical activity and diet through Cadent’s Vulnerability and Carbon Monoxide Initiative (VCMI) funding from Ofgem, to support with less complex benefit issues, as well as energy and housing signposting and lifestyle and social isolation.
