    • Modernising gas pipes that have been in operation for decades
    • Upgrade will future-proof the network
    • Works will begin on 23rd July and will last until for 6 weeks

Major works to replace 500 metres of gas pipes under West Road (and surrounding areas) in Bourne, which are essential to keeping homes in the area warm, are beginning on 23rd July and will last for approximately six weeks.

Cadent, which manages the local gas network, will be carrying out a project which will see gas mains being replaced in order to future proof the network and ready pipes for the introduction of biogases.

In collaboration with Lincolnshire County Council and the Highways Agency, traffic management controls will be in place in the area as follows:

    • Westbourne Park – 23/07/2025 – 13/08/2025 – Traffic Signals with two junction closures in place on Leforic Avenue and Woodland Avenue.
    • West Road – 24/07/2025 – 07/08/2025 – 3 Way Traffic Signals to be in place.
    • Saxon Way/Godiva Crescent – 06/08/2025 – 27/08/2025 – 3 Way Signals with two junction closures in place on Leforic Avenue and Godiva Crescent.
    • North Road – 11/08/2025 – 01/09/2025 W/C 11/08/2025 – Night Works between 8pm and 6am only – Harrington Street to be closed at the North Road roundabout with 2 Way signals between the roundabout and Maple Gardens- Due to the nature of the works, there may be an unavoidable level of noise, but we will endeavour to carry out the project as swiftly as possible.
    • W/C 18/08/2025 – 3 Way signals at the junction of Maple Gardens
    • W/C 25/08/2025 – 2 Way signals at between Elm Terrace and Gladstone Street moving to 4 Way signals at the junction of Gladstone Street.

Our works will also take place at the weekend to ensure the project is completed as quickly as possible.

Richard Sansom, Network Director for Cadent in the East Midlands, said: “These works are part of a major £1.1billion investment in our Eastern Network by Cadent which is vital in ensuring that we keep gas flowing to homes in Lincolnshire and beyond for generations to come.

“With gas pipes being decades old, it is essential that we replace them to futureproof our network and minimise the amount of repair work that we have to do in the area over the coming years. Keeping the people of Bourne warm in their homes is our number one priority. I can confirm that gas will stay on throughout the duration of these works.

“I understand that these works will cause inconvenience and frustration to residents and road users; this is natural. However, we are doing all that we can to minimise disruption as we carry out these vital works and will continue to engage with the local community. I would urge everybody to allow for additional time in their journeys, and I want to thanks everyone for their patience and understanding as we seek to carry out the works as swiftly, but as safely as possible.”

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
