    • Details of essential project to upgrade gas pipeline along London Road in Worcester
    • Temporary traffic lights from Monday 6 July for the duration of the project
    • Future-proofing ageing pipes is part of Cadent’s commitment to a safer, greener gas network

Cadent will begin essential work on Monday 6 July to upgrade the gas pipeline along London Road, Worcester. The project will run until the end of August, with additional works taking place on nearby roads including Foxwell Street and Yew Tree Close.

The existing pipes in the area have reached the end of their operational life, and this work will ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for local homes and businesses.

This upgrade is part of Cadent’s commitment to future-proof the gas network, ensuring it is ready to support greener, cleaner gases and reduce methane emissions.

During the scheme, engineers will be working along sections of London Road to replace over 770 metres of ageing pipework with new, durable plastic pipes designed to last for decades.

Due to the location of the pipeline, temporary traffic lights will be in place on London Road for the duration of the project.

From 13 July, Foxwell Street will be closed for approximately two weeks to allow the work to be carried out safely. Residents will still be able to access their properties throughout this time.

Residents are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

Phil Carmichael, Head of Operations for Cadent in the West Midlands, said: This project will ensure residents in Worcester continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for decades to come.

These upgrades also bring important environmental benefits, helping to reduce methane emissions and enabling the use of greener gases like biomethane. This is an important step towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

We are working closely with the local council to minimise disruption and will complete the works as safely and efficiently as possible. We’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we carry out these essential upgrades.

    Does gas stay on?

Gas will remain ON for the duration of the work. The only interruption to supply will be to properties that take a direct feed from the pipes being replaced in the immediate local area. Supply to these properties will be disconnected for a short time and restored the same day, once the property is connected to the new pipe. Advance notice will be provided.

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
