    • Essential work will help maintain safe and reliable gas supplies for homes and businesses in Hatton
    • Engineers will replace gas pipes along Hockley Road, Birmingham Road and Brownley Green Lane
    • The project starts on Monday 5 October and is expected to take around seven weeks, with temporary traffic lights in place

Gas engineers from Cadent are preparing the local network for winter by carrying out essential work to replace gas pipes in Hatton, Warwickshire.

The project will see engineers replace pipes along Hockley Road, Birmingham Road and Brownley Green Lane after increased leakage was identified in the area. The work is being brought forward so the affected pipes can be replaced before colder weather increases demand on the gas network.

The scheme is due to start on Monday 5 October and is expected to take approximately seven weeks, finishing around Friday 27 November, subject to progress and unforeseen site conditions.

Work will be delivered in three phases. Phase one will begin on Hockley Road before continuing onto Birmingham Road and ending at the Canal Road junction. Phase two will cross Birmingham Road and continue into Brownley Green Lane, followed by the final phase on Brownley Green Lane.

Temporary traffic lights will be required throughout the project to enable the work to be completed safely.

To ease delays, Cadent will also use REMOS technology for the first time in the West Midlands. This advanced traffic management system allows trained operators to monitor live traffic conditions and manage the temporary signals remotely to help reduce unnecessary delays. Drivers should still allow extra time for journeys, particularly during peak periods.

A Cadent spokesperson said: We are carrying out this work after identifying increased leakage in this part of the gas network and want to replace the affected pipes before colder weather increases demand.

These upgrades will help improve the reliability of the local gas network and ensure we can continue to deliver gas safely to homes and businesses in Hatton for many years to come.

We appreciate that temporary traffic lights on this busy route will cause some disruption and would like to thank residents and road users in advance for their patience while we complete this important project.

We are working closely with Warwickshire County Council, Hatton Parish Council, local residents and businesses, including The Hatton Arms, to minimise disruption wherever possible. Access will be maintained wherever it is safe and practical to do so, and customers directly affected by the work will be kept informed throughout the scheme.

To help reduce unnecessary delays, we will be using live traffic monitoring technology alongside advance warning signs and regular updates. However, drivers should still allow extra time for journeys, particularly during peak periods.

Gas supplies are expected to remain on during the work. If any interruption is required, affected customers will be contacted directly in advance and given further information.

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
