    DPLA - Qube Technology Trials

    12 Nov 2024 Innovation

Based in Canada, Qube Technologies is a leading producer of AI-based environmental surveillance technology for industrial sectors, including energy, agriculture, waste management, and utilities. As part of the Digital Platform for Leakage Analytics (DPLA) project, Cadent is trialling Qube’s continuous monitoring solution, Qube Axon, which enables operators to cost effectively detect, quantify, and reduce methane emissions.  The continuous data collected by the sensors will then be analysed to generate site-level insights including emission location, quantity and classification.

    Qube Trial Overview

Cadent will look to install Qube sensors at Above-Ground Installation (AGI) sites in East Anglia and North London. The sensors, in combination with other technologies, will help inform the energy operations (ops) teams, and assist in detecting emissions across our assets, playing a vital role in the DPLA trials.

    Network Coverage

Training sessions for installation and servicing have been conducted with our energy ops teams in North London and East Anglia networks. The devices are being trialled across both regions, and the results will be analysed to gather important data and improve our understanding.

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
